Lincoln Imps XV were only able to travel to Matlock with 13 players due to availability, but this didn't stop them from battling bravely throughout in a 47-14 defeat in Derbyshire.

The visitors battled strongly in the first half and scored a try through their man-of-the-match Tom Law, who was playing at full-back.

Luke Brodrick offloaded the ball to Law just outside the 22 and he raced clear to go over for a try. Brodrick successfully slotted over the conversion.

Matlock performed well and were a very strong side, but Lincoln refused to give up and were rewarded with another try in the second half.

Lincoln cleared the ball out of their 22 before Law kicked it all the way to the try line, beating four defenders to make sure he got their first to ground it.

This time the conversion was taken by scrum-half Alex Brodrick, who made no mistake and successfully kicked the extra two points.

After the match try scorer Law said: “It was a tough day at the office without a full squad or subs, but there were plenty of positives to take into the rest of the season after not playing for five weeks.”

Lincoln Imps XV captain Jacob Taylor added: “Taking a team short of players to Derbyshire is always a tough ask, but the game was highlighted by some stellar individual performances in both attack and defence.

“Special mentions to Darren Rorie for his massive performance and Tom Law for his attacking flair leading to both tries.”
