Lincolnshire Lancers fielded two teams who both played with a great spirit at a friendly Touch Rugby tournament at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park over the weekend.
Lancers Pink were captained by Rich Green and vice captain Liam Earley and all of the players produced some great performances, including some making their debuts.
They were defeated 6-2 in their first game against Hull Roundheads before narrowly losing 2-1 against hosts Sheffield Vulcans. In their final game of the day they battled to a 3-3 draw against Nottingham Hurricanes.
Orion Fergie, Alex Wright, Green and Earley all scored tries for Lancers Pink.
Lancers Black were captained by Kieran Foxall and vice captain Ashley Vamplew and won two of their three pool matches.
Lancers Black produced an outstanding performance to beat Coventry Corsairs 2-0 before they narrowly lost 2-0 to Leeds Hunters. They soon bounced back to beat Sheffield Vulcans B to secure a place in the 3rd/4th place play-off match, where they played Nottingham Hurricanes.
A dominant performance saw the Lancers claim a convincing 5-0 win to secure the third place prize.
Fielden Dawson, Josef Langmead, Lauren Underdown, Zara Bedford, Owen Elliott, Foxall and Vamplew all scored tries for the Lancers.
Wright and Langmead (both pictured below) shone on their debuts and were named as the Lancers Pink and Black players of the day respectively.
The Lincolnshire Lancers are the county’s first gay and inclusive rugby team who train at Lincoln Rugby Club every Thursday evening between 7pm and 8.30pm.
