Lincoln’s 3rd XV put in a spirited performance during their two games at a special tournament marking the 75th anniversary of Skegness Rugby Club.
The first match of the tournament saw Lincoln lock horns with Horncastle in what was a very close contest.
A classy grubber kick was cleverly followed up by Lincoln winger Sam Jones, who leapt on the bouncing the ball to secure the opening try of the match.
Horncastle hit back with a try from Ste Patten and a penalty from Troy Willerton to snatch a narrow 8-5 lead.
Lincoln’s Rob Smith nearly swung the score back in their favour when he forced his way over the line, but it was disallowed by the referee for an alleged forward pass.
Lincoln then faced hosts Skegness in what was a more defensive performance. Although the young Lincoln side kept working hard and deserved to get something from the game, it ended in a 38-0 win for Skegness.
The final match of the tournament saw Skegness beat Horncastle 24-7 to finish as overall winners of the competition on what was a special day for the club.
Lincoln’s 3rd XV Manager Tony Clayton said: “It was a great day of rugby and for celebrating what is great in the rugby community.
“Sincere thanks to Skegness for their excellent hosting and providing a hugely enjoyable day.”
Skegness captain Adam Ongley said: “It was a great day for the club with lots of guests old and new and lots of fun had.
“It was great to see other clubs also wanting to come and support.
“It was a privilege to be skipper for the day with a great bunch of lads all playing rugby for each other and enjoying rugby.”
