Players flood back to Lincoln Rugby Club as grassroots rugby returns with a bang

Lincoln Rugby Club has seen strong numbers back at training since outdoor sports were given the greenlight to return.

Many wondered what effect the pandemic would have on playing numbers after the best part of a year without any meaningful rugby. Early signs are extremely positive and suggest the long lockdown has not dampened enthusiasm for the sport in any way.

Far from losing players, Lincoln Rugby Club, like many across the country, has seen full attendances at training sessions, including new players.

From minis to the veterans, across the entire nation, kit has been donned, boots laced, Covid measures put in place and rugby returning with a passion.

Ross Tarnowski (Director of Senior Rugby) stated that "Everyone has really enjoyed starting back training at the club across all age groups. The Senior Men’s and Women’s squads are averaging 60+ players on a training night which is fantastic to see. Our senior teams will be competing in a new NLD Cup Competition from Saturday 5 June through to Saturday 3 July with a number of home games. Spectators are always welcome to attend and enjoy the rugby and great facilities that we have.

All of our Mini and Junior teams are welcoming new players to the club on a weekly basis and numbers are soaring! We will be having a number of friendly fixtures and summer activities to really bring the kids back together in that social and sporting environment.

Although the pandemic has brought a number of challenges for us as a club, we are very fortunate to have an amazing member base, supportive players and parents. This has allowed us to flourish during lockdown and we are now ready for rugby again moving forward into the summer months. It is great to see so many smiling faces enjoying playing the game we all love. New players of any age are always welcome to attend training.”
