Lincoln's first 'Minis on Tour' event was a big success on Sunday as 40 new players picked up a rugby ball and played our great sport for the first time.

It is vital for the growth of Lincoln Rugby Club, and the sport in the city, that we start taking rugby out into the community and all the kids appeared to enjoy the event, which was held at Birchwood Junior School.

Lincoln's Director of Youth Rugby Chris Briggs said: "The uptake by the residents of Birchwood and Doddington Park was fantastic and we are hoping to make this a regular occurrence at Birchwood Juniors and other locations around the city."

The club's Director of Senior Rugby Ross Tarnowski added: "It was a fantastic morning of rugby for the 'Minis on Tour' training session at Birchwood Junior School.

"It was great to see so many additional young kids pop along to try out rugby in their respective age groups, and see for themselves what an excellent sport it is and how much fun and enjoyment can be had.

"The morning was excellently organised and credit must also go to the coaches, managers and volunteers for welcoming all of the players and making the event such a success."

Meanwhile, Lincoln's Under-15s are through to the next rund of the NLD Cup after a 10-0 win against Tupton.

Lincoln's Under-13s were defeated by a strong West Bridgford side by seven tries to two.

The club's girls' team were invited by Kesteven to join their fixture against Peterborough, with Lincoln players on both teams. It was a really competitive game and excellently refereed.
