Two tries from Aron Smith and a 17-point haul from Jack Miles helped Lincoln’s 3rd XV to an impressive 47-5 win away against Boston.
It was a great team performance by Lincoln who took just three minutes to open the scoring. Alex Brodrick offloaded the ball to Tom Law, who grubbered the ball through before going over for a try, which Miles converted.
Lincoln extended their lead just seven minutes later when scrum-half Smith scored off a pick and go from a ruck. Miles, who was named as Lincoln’s best player of the match by Boston, successfully slotted over the conversion.
The visitors were in a confident mood and extended their lead midway through the first half when Smith scored his second try of the match from a similar pick and go. Miles once again added the extras to give Lincoln a 21-0 lead going in at the break.
Boston played the game in a great spirit but it was Lincoln who were next to score. Will Hewing set up Luke Neve to run through the home defence for a try, which Miles converted on the hour mark.
Lincoln soon increased their lead when Tom Law buried a ball deep into Boston’s half which was expertly controlled by Kodi Strand. A quick offload left Jacob Taylor one-on-one with the Boston full-back, who he said he “sold with a hitch kick” leaving him to run in for a try.
Boston refused to give up and reduced the deficit as prop Diogo Felicio crossed for their only try of the match.
Lincoln soon regained control of the match and Miles capped his excellent performance with a try seven minutes from time. The youngster took a hard line of a ruck against the grain around seven metres out before running through untouched to score a try, which he also converted.
Miles was also involved in Lincoln’s final try of the match after he smashed through the line in the closing minutes of the match. The fly-half drew the Boston full-back in before a superb offload set up Sam Cave, who Lincoln named as their man-of-the-match and he won the foot race to the try line.
Miles slotted over his sixth conversion of the match to complete the scoring.
After the match Lincoln try scorer Aron Smith said: “Team work was the key to the win and the confidence of the team inspired every player.”
Boston’s club captain Luke Fowler said: “Boston knew that taking on Lincoln would be a test with their strength in depth that they have shown in previous encounters.
“Even though availability was an issue we showed plenty of heart and desire and that’s all that we can ask for.
“It’s good for Diogo to score and gain confidence and I hope he takes that into the coming fixutres.”
